Being able to switch between 2 Talent Specs in WotLK

Impossible you say? Nay I say.

"We talked about this recently at the Worldwide Invitational actually. We are looking into allowing players to basically have two talent specs that they can switch between but we are still working out the exact details so we will have to wait and see exactly how it will function in-game."

It's like the 2 weapon sets in d2 LoD except...amazingly much better
Raids will be so much more versatile and when one only needs 1 or 2 tanks...the others can jsut switch...*click*...jsut like that to arms or fury...or in PLD/DK cases ret/holy/unholy/blood

now...all we need to do is QQ for >-in combat-< talent switches... :p

That would pretty much undo the premise of the whole "spec" deal. Why not just make it so you can reassign points at will? Say, if you're out of combat?

The only way to make this only slightly retarded (instead of completely retarded) is if you still had to visit an NPC to swap between them.

Yeah, switching on the go may be a bit too much, a stable master of talent specs would be optimal

Fuck you guys give me free respecs on demand.

I'm totally down with that. I'm just saying it goes against a lot of what Blizzard seems to want to do with the way characters are played.

I'd be prot/fury if I could do that, seeing as how I have those two sets of gear anyway XD.

Imagining the raiding strategy complexities that're likely to result from being able to change spec whenever you're out of combat makes my brain hurt.

I'd be two different raid specs every monday/wednesday night and two different pvp specs every day in between.

No doubt there will be some sort of a cooldown and certain restrictions, ie: out of combat and not in a instance.

Out of combat. XD

No "oh shit I'm still Fury!" on boss fights. *cough*

Agiathas

Wow..i really hope this will go live.

Also no more excuses for PuG warriors who don't want to tank because they think they need to be prot for normal 5-mans.

Well, there will be more flexibility here, but it could make things easier too, and probably harder in other situations, when one has to sort out who is going which spec

Just means double the tells for me... Can you tank or heal y instance for us? zzz

Which also means u can get into mroe instances :p

Doesn't this only further marginalize classes that don't have multiple roles they can spec among?

Example too plz?
seems to me that dps classes could still choose the spec that would be most beneficial to different raid set ups/bosses/mobs
ie: going BM or mark pending on situation
or being a lock w/ imp imp for a tank or w/e group...or being affliction w/ imp curse of elem
still could be more versatile in the smaller things of a raid/fight

I don't think it would damage single role classes. Rogues for example, could maintain two raiding specs, one for trash burst damage and another for sustained boss damage.

Priests with appropriate gear could jump into shadow on pulls that healing wasn't as necessary to be mana batteries for the rest of the raid. etc.

If they let this go through, I think it could be really, really fun.

As it stands, the differences in 'lock specs pale compared to the range of specs for several of the other classes, so I think yes, it will further marginalize. Hopefully that will change with the new talents WotLK will introduce.

Latest News:

Talents - Dual Specialization
We're defintiely pursuing the ability to switch specs. The details are still being debated internally but we do have plans that would allow for players to switch between specs.

We want every spec to be viable, as you say. But the truth is, in end game raiding or end game PvP (Arena in particular), there is a big difference between "viable" and "the best". Players will always perceive certain specs to be better than others in end game activities and it would be misleading to imply that all specs are going to be universally ideal for all situations. But viable is a different story.

I imagine by this stage we wouldn't see it until a patch after release?
Most likely in a patch but it's not too far off.

I remember *literally* jumping for joy when they set the Re-train cap at 50g, and before that when they added the cost decay

I really think that blizzard isn't focusing on this as being able to switch on the go specs, but to address the issues that certain specs have. IE the warrior who's pretty much tied down to doing either DPS or Tanking.

Personally on my rogue I'd like to have the option of having my raid spec and then an arena spec.

I'm sure blizzard willl put something in place that probably will not allow spec changes while in instances but I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time...:)

Talents - Dual-Spec feature to be revealed during Blizzcon (This Week)

Quote from: Ghostcrawler

"Furthermore, don't expect us to be ripping up every other talent tree in the game at this stage. We will continue to change talent effects before Lich King ships, but don't expect a lot more massive rejuggling of the trees themselves. The dual-spec feature will shine more light on talent design (more on that at Blizzcon) and we'll have a better idea of what we want to do with trees when that goes live. Some talent trees are nice and lean, and some probably have some points we could trim here and there. "

So it looks like we'll know more later this week, niiiccce.
