WTH? is that Mike talking about booze? I THOUGHT YOU WERE ONE OF THE UNCORRUPTED ONES!!!!!
Also - Grats to the Obama girls..who get a new puppy upon their arrival to the White House. Getting a puppy is always an exciting time in a girl's life.
Things were crazy in Brooklyn last night as soon as it was announced that he won. People yelling out of windows and on the streets, cars honking. It went on till 2 am, in all my years in NYC (thirteen and counting) I've never seen anything like it. It kinda reminded me of the end of Return of the Jedi when all the Ewoks were celebrating, good times!
That was hella cute in his speech when he told the girls they were getting a puppy. I want a puppy.
I am actually really excited to have kids in the White House again. When I was a kid, I think I totally related more to Bill Clinton because of Chelsea (and Socks the cat).
I was about half a mile away from that rally in Portland. The lines for that rally snaked all around downtown, it was crazy. And he was elected on my birthday..that's kind of neat.
I shudder at the thought of having a clinton in the whitehouse..even for a visit...thankfully Barack seems to be a much different democrat than Bill was/is.
Now if he can just over ride the ultra liberals in congress, this country can get back to a centered state
the farthest point of the liberal side =communism, and most-farthest conservative is fascist, right?
(the lesser of those two are socialist and...umm...nationalist?)
Not really, Brambleama-a-diddy-ambles. 's not that simple. Would that it were. Liberalism is a political movement that has grown out of the Enlightenment notion that the individual's liberty is the most important goal of a political system. Conservatism is, at the base of it, a movement to slow or stop change and perhaps regress to an idealized past.
Socialism and communism are economic systems that are generally seen to oppose capitalism, but the former can certainly be mixed into capitalism and is so in the United States.
Nationalism is a sort of nebulous movement that seeks to elevate one's particular nation, usually in the creation of a nation-state. A nation-state is a state (political identity) that comprises only one nation (ethnic/cultural identity), or has only one nation dominant over the others.
Fascism is a system that mixes nationalism with a mixed economic theory and a totalitarian form of government, usually violently.
All of the above can be taken to extremes.
and, of course, there are more political, social, and economic ideas out there, but those are the ones you asked about. :)
Socialism, as far as I've read, isn't an economic system but rather the social side of the economic system that Communism creates. But I guess that might be mere semantics.
In a nutshell, Communism takes Socialism, which is primarily about economics, and adds on a political component. So Communism could be viewed as a particular type of Socialism.
Despite the way they've come to be used in this country, I think "conservative" and "liberal" really don't map literally to Capitalism and Communism/Socialism. It's very possible to have a liberal or progressive capitalistic society or a conservative communistic society. What we've seen from the GOP in the last eight years could very well be considered liberal capitalism. (It certainly hasn't been fiscally conservative in any way, shape, or form. :P)
