Eh. Technology is technology. Gears, gadgets, lights. It stems from humans, so why not show it to other humans? They didn't taunt the children with the iPods and such and were only trying to help them. I'm pretty sure that's not cruel. Perhaps if they all have their hopes and dreams crushed then the situation is cruel, but that's taking a very pessimistic approach and weighing the incident as quite an important one in the lives of these children.
At least it's not like giving them only one dosage of a treatment for some terrible disease and then withholding the continual treatment.
