Here it is! Looks like it'd be pretty fun/casual game that someone may like to play (with the liberal incentive of it not costing money!). Anyone want to try it out since it'll be available tomorrow?

so, what is this game? i thought it was a tactical-style game, but then i saw a different place that it was an overhead shooter

Think L4D with various weapons, aliens, and 3rd person viewing. (the link has a game play video as well and could probably give you a better idea than what I can say).

It's an overhead shooter (3rd person as opposed to top down though) with tactical elements. You run around with a team of 4 military types all of whom can shoot but also have other secondary skills (like a medic who heals, engineer who welds doors shut to create barriers, etc) and you have a big map with goals to achieve and aliens to explode and so you can be tactical, or you can just blow shit up.

I imagine that the harder the game gets the more tactical you have to be, though I've only played the first offline map to get a feel for the gameplay and it was not hard. The design is visually fun, but not amazing looking. I wasn't overly enthralled with the gameplay, but it's probably more fun playing with your friends and coming up with crazy tactics on the fly while annihilating swarms of aliens.

Oh, the online mode is definitely better by a multiplier of at least 3 or 4. You have stats and unlockables too. Along with many more varied missions with even trickier aliens waiting to nom your face into pudding.

i think so...i only played for like 3 minutes and had the revelation that in order for me to not get bored with this in an hour i need to be playing with others

So I sort of realized we don't have a steam group, and I felt that was a strong oversight. So I created one! It's invite only, but I invited the people I know about on Steam. Holler! And then we can have adventures! STEAMY ones.

I dunno whether it is available for Mac, but with TF2's conversion maybe they'll release a Mac-able one! Either that or I missed where it says dual-compatibility.

We had a fireside steam group, but then it didn't really do anything.
